Report Compliance Concerns

Report Concerns Confidentially Through the OSF Integrity Line

Government agencies, insurance companies and health care consumers are aggressively reviewing the billing and medical records of hospitals, physicians and other health care providers. The government does not tolerate fraud, waste and abuse. Fraud includes billing Medicare and Medicaid for services that were not provided or were not properly documented. Waste and abuse include billing for services that were not needed.

The OSF Compliance Program is focused on preventing fraud, waste and abuse by helping employees follow OSF policies and government rules and regulations. The goal of the OSF Compliance Program is to prevent violations and resolve any problems.

OSF employees have a duty to report concerns about improper billing practices such as fraud, waste and abuse and other possible violations of OSF policies and Federal and State laws.

OSF HealthCare also encourages patients and their families to report concerns they may have.

The OSF Integrity Line is a confidential method to report serious compliance concerns. Examples of the types of issues that should be reported include:

  • Billing fraud, waste and abuse
  • HIPAA privacy violations
  • Illegal conduct
  • Conflicts of interest
  • Theft of OSF property
  • Violations of laws and OSF policies
  • Harassment or discrimination
  • Workplace violence

How to use the OSF Integrity Line

The OSF Integrity Line is operated by an independent company that specializes in this type of service. Reports may be made by calling a toll-free telephone number or by logging on to their website. Both methods are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you prefer to speak with a live operator, you may call the toll-free number 1-800-547-2822. The operator will ask you questions about your concern. The Integrity Line staff will prepare a report and forward it to the appropriate person at OSF for investigation. The Integrity Line operators will not be able to answer questions directly.

To make a report via the Internet, log on to the OSF Integrity Line website, and fill in important information about your concern.

When you call or log on to the OSF Integrity Line to report an issue, you will be given an identification number and a contact date. Your issue will be investigated, and a response will be prepared for you to access on that date. You may provide your name and contact information if you wish, or you may choose to remain anonymous. Sometimes during the course of an investigation, the identity of an anonymous caller may become known due to the specific circumstances of the issue reported.

Please be sure to provide enough information so that a thorough investigation of your concern may be completed. This is especially important for reports submitted via the Internet. Remember - the only information available to the investigator is what you provide in your report. Even if you choose to submit your report anonymously, please identify the individual who is the subject of your report, the work unit or department involved, and any other involved parties, such as a supervisor, manager or witness.

Call or log on to the OSF Integrity Line on or after the contact date to receive the response to your report. You may be asked to provide additional information to complete the investigation.
